Small Wildfire In Remote Nevada Canyon Caused By Lightning

FALLON, Nev. (AP) — Officials say a wildfire burning in a remote northern Nevada canyon has grown to nearly 4 square miles and appears to have been caused by lightning.

U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman Lisa Ross said the fire burning grass and pinyon-juniper was about 50 miles east of the city of Fallon.

A crew of about 150 people had it about 10 percent contained Sunday afternoon. No injuries have been reported and no structures have been lost or threatened from the fire.

Ross says the fire is in a remote area but did not know how far away it was from the nearest building.

Ross says authorities determined that lightning caused the fire to break out late Friday afternoon.
