CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada regulators have voted to keep existing rates in place for rooftop solar customers, even though the state hit a cap on net metering.
The Public Utilities Commission voted Wednesday to maintain the rates for at least a few months before permanent ones must be adopted by the end of the year.
Nevada reached a statewide cap last week on net metering, which allows customers with solar panels at home to sell excess energy back to the utility company.
Rooftop solar companies have argued for keeping the existing rates. They say adopting NV Energy's proposed new rate structure would kill their industry in Nevada, and say they were misled about how quickly the state would reach the cap.
NV Energy said it needs new rates to avoid shifting costs.
