CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Republicans and Democrats both added about 7,000 new voters to their rolls from December to January as the presidential caucuses approach.
The Nevada Secretary of State's Office reported Tuesday that there were more than 471,000 active Democratic voters in the state in January. That's about 39 percent of the state's active voter base.
Republicans are in second place, with more than 423,000 registered voters in January. That's about 35 percent of Nevada's 1.2 million active voters.
Nonpartisans are the third largest group, with more than 234,000 registered in that category. That's about 19 percent of the state's active voters.
Voters must register as a Republican or Democrat to participate in each party's respective presidential caucus later in February.
