NV Congressmembers Propose Bill To Advance XpressWest Project

Members of Nevada’s congressional delegation has introduced bills in the Senate and House in an effort to speed along progress of a proposed high speed rail link between Las Vegas and southern California.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Senators Heller and Reid introduced the bill in their chamber, while Representatives Heck, Hardy and Amodei did so in the House.

The bills would take land from under the control of the Bureau of Land Management and move it to the National Parks Service’s jurisdiction.

The 520 acres of land are part of the Mojave National Preserve and sit where the XpressWest train service is slated to run.

XpressWest gained approval from Nevada officials to go forward with this project in November, when the Nevada High-Speed Rail Authority granted the company the right to proceed.
