LAS VEGAS (AP) — Clark County commissioners are looking to have work done on the iconic "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign, which could use a touch-up.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Commissioner Steve Sisolak at a meeting Tuesday stressed the importance of taking care of the 57-year-old sign where he says "millions of pictures" are taken each year.
The diamond-shaped sign that stands at the south end of Las Vegas Boulevard falls under the jurisdiction of Clark County, which leases the sign from the Young Electric Sign Co.
A company representative told Sisolak work on the sign would be completed soon and done during hours of low traffic.
The sign was designed by Betty Willis in 1959. It earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 2009.
