Sizzler Fired Washoe School Board Member Who Resigned

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The former employer of a Washoe County school board member who resigned amid accusations of misconduct involving a teenager says he recently was fired under a corporate policy forbidding harassment in the workplace.

Board President Angela Taylor announced Friday that Nicholas Smith submitted his resignation after he was confronted with allegations of misconduct involving a high school student at his place of employment.

Smith formerly worked as the general manager of a Sizzler restaurant in Sparks.

Sizzling Platter, the Utah-based operator of the restaurant, issued a statement Monday that says the company has a zero-tolerance policy regarding harassment and inappropriate behavior, including vulgar language. It says Smith was terminated when Sizzler officials learned of the complaint and launched an investigation that is continuing.

Smith has not responded to requests for comment from The Associated Press.
