Few UT Dems Able To Out Fundraise Republicans

Fundraising reports show Democratic candidates are raising as much money as their Republican counterparts in only a few of the 90 races this year for Utah's overwhelmingly Republican state Legislature.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that in races for three open House seats, Democrats have outraised Republicans. The seats had been held by the GOP but Democrats hope to have a shot there to reduce the Republican majority.

Democrats also outraised Republicans in another House seat where an incumbent GOP representative is running for re-election.

Fundraising reports show Democrats in four other House races have come close to outraising incumbent Republican representatives.

In more than a third of the races, candidates are unopposed or only face a third-party challenger.
