LDS Church Launches Website Saying Being Gay Isn't A Sin, But Acting On It Is

Mormon leaders are telling gay and lesbian church members that attraction to people of the same sex is not a sin or a measure of their faithfulness.

But they are reminding those members that acting on those feelings by having sex violates fundamental doctrinal beliefs that won't change.

The message is part of the Mormon church's "Mormon and Gay" website launched Tuesday with dozens of articles, teachings, videos and stories from Mormons who identify themselves as gay.

It is a remake of a site first created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints nearly four years ago.

The website is designed to encourage compassion and acceptance for LGBT people and strike a softer tone on an issue that has led to criticism of the conservative Utah-based religion recently.

Sink your teeth into our annual collection of dining — and drinking — stories, including a tally of Sin City's Tiki bars, why good bread is having a moment, and how one award-winning chef is serving up Caribbean history lessons through steak. Plus, discover how Las Vegas is a sports town, in more ways than one. Bon appétit!
