Sen. Reid Writes Letter Suggesting FBI Director Comey Might Have Broken Federal Law

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has suggested FBI Director James Comey breached federal law when he announced his agency is looking into new emails possibly connected to the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

Comey says the FBI found the emails in an unrelated case concerning text messages from Anthony Weiner.  Weiner is the estranged husband of a Clinton aide.

Comey says the new emails prompted revisiting the previously closed investigation of Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.

In an open letter to news outlets, Reid said Comey’s actions might be in violation of the Hatch Act, under which FBI officials aren’t allowed to use their positions to sway election results.
