Automatic Voter Registration Floated For Nevada

Automatic voter registration may be coming to Nevada.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports petitions have been filed with the Nevada Secretary of State's office to bring the matter before the state Legislature beginning next year.

Petitioners are hoping to make voter registration part of the process of getting a driver's license or ID card from the Department of Motor Vehicles.

At present, motorists can register to vote at the same time as when they get their licenses, but they have to opt in to the process.

This proposal would automatically register new voters unless they opt out.
