UNLV Students Deliver Petition Calling For Sanctuary Campus

Students and faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas have delivered a petition to the university president's office asking that school become a sanctuary campus.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the petition taken to President Len Jessup's office on Monday had nearly 1,000 signatures. If UNLV declared itself a sanctuary campus, it would grant protections to immigrant students who are in the country illegally while attending the school.

President-elect Donald Trump has said he would end an executive order that granted temporary protections to such students nationwide.

Jessup in a statement that "inclusiveness is at the core" of UNLV, but he did not address the sanctuary campus issue directly. University spokesman Tony Allen says Jessup and the university administration will continue to evaluate the issue.
