Washoe County parents are petitioning the school district to change its policy on head lice, according to the KTVN-TV in Reno.
Under current rules, after a nurse verifies a case of lice, parents are notified, but not required to pick up their child immediately for treatment. More than 1,300 parents want that to change.
Dana Balchunas, Director of Student Health Services for the Washoe County School District, says lice can’t jump or fly, so regular classroom activity is unlikely to spread them.
