A rural Nevada sheriff accused of misconduct is facing a recall election sparked by an odd mix of local critics, an influential brothel owner and the industrial park that landed Tesla's "gigafactory."
Storey County voters were headed to the polls Tuesday to decide whether to retain Sheriff Gerald Antinoro.
Antinoro says it's a vendetta led by Lance Gilman, a county commissioner who owns the infamous Mustang Ranch brothel and oversees the industrial park east of Reno.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the Truckee Reno Industrial Center has spent $142,000 on a campaign to oust him.
First elected in 2010, Antinoro has been accused of budget improprieties, an election ethics violation and sexually harassing a deputy. He says he's been targeted because his officers ticket speeders at the industrial park and have cracked down on worker-registration requirements at the brothel.
