Senate Advances Bill To Change Credit-Hour Requirements For Silver State Opportunity Grant

The State Senate unanimously pushed forward a bill that changes student credit-hour requirements for the Silver State Opportunity Grant, the state's first need-based grant.

The Nevada Independent reports the current minimum is 15 credit hours per semester, but under the bill students who are in the last semester of their program of study would be exempted. The bill would also allow classes that are not offered at a student’s current school, but are taken at another school within the state system to be counted towards the credit hour total.

Republican State Senator Ben Kieckefer is sponsoring the bill. It now moves onto the Assembly.
