Sandoval Disagrees With AG Adam Laxalt On Commerce Tax

Governor Brian Sandoval said Tuesday he disagrees with fellow Republican and Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt’s proposal to eliminate the commerce tax.

The tax was passed in the 2015 Legislative Session as a means to fund K-12 education in the state, to the tune of some $391 million.

Laxalt said in a report by the Nevada Independent that he wants to repeal the levy, saying that it hurts the education system.

Other Republicans in the state have also voiced opposition to the tax, included Controller Ron Knecht and former Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Beers, who filed a referendum petition this summer to repeal the tax.

Laxalt is largely expected to announce his bid for governor in the coming weeks.
