Mormon Church Allowing More Missionaries To Use Smartphones

The Mormon Church made an announcement this weekend that reflects a more accepting attitude of the digital age.

The religion is nearly doubling the missions where technology is allowed and is swapping out tablets for smartphones.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is updating rules for men and women who proselytize to recruit converts.

The number of missions using smartphones is increasing from 87 to 162.

The religion also said that most missionaries in the future will bring smartphones.

The phones, however, are only to be used to help prospective converts, and not for personal browsing or texting and will be outfitted with apps for scripture and other teaching materials.

Along with the tech announcement, local church leaders will also be required to issue a set of 16 standardized questions for prospective missionaries.
