Army Files Trademark Challenge To Golden Knights Name

The U.S. Army filed a challenge against the Vegas Golden Knights name with the U.S. Trademark Trial and Appeal Board Wednesday.

The Army says the name and color scheme is too similar to their military parachute team.

The Army’s Golden Knights uses the color scheme black and gold and yellow and white.

The new NHL franchise team released its name and logos in November 2016.

The Army expressed its opposition to the mark 10 months later in September 2017. The Vegas Golden Knights owner Bill Foley graduated from the Army in 1967. In its filing, the Army points to an article in the Washington Post in June in which the team’s general manager George McPhee also makes the connection.
