Nevada has once again ranked as the worst state in the nation for education in a national report.
Education Week released its annual Quality Counts study Wednesday, which grades states on school finances, K-12 achievement and a student’s chance for success.
Overall, Nevada ranked 51 st out of 50 states and the District of Columbia and received a “D” grade.
It’s the second consecutive year Nevada has ranked at the very bottom of the list.
State education officials have said the report uses data from 2015, meaning it doesn’t take into account the nearly $500 million worth of education investments Nevada has made since then.
State Superintendent Steve Canavero said he expects Nevada’s scores to rise next year when updated data is used. Nevada ranks 38 th in the report’s K-12 achievement category, and 48 th in the school finance category.
Louisiana, Idaho, Mississippi and New Mexico joined Nevada in the bottom five.
