Unionized Workers To Picket Outside 2 Las Vegas Casinos

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Housekeepers, bartenders and other unionized workers are set to picket in downtown Las Vegas as they continue their efforts to secure new contracts.

Culinary Union members on Friday will protest again outside the D and Golden Gate casino-hotels.

This will be the fourth week in a row that workers demonstrate outside the D.

The contracts of 50,000 unionized workers expired earlier this year. Workers in May voted to authorize a strike over the lack of progress on contract negotiations.

Workers at more than two dozen properties have since reached five-year deals with casino operators.

The agreements have included wage increases, additional protections against sexual harassment in the workplace and a three-day paid leave in the event of the death of an immediate relative.

About 3,400 workers remain without contracts.
