Fire In Elko County Surpasses 78,000 Acres

The Sugarloaf fire in Elko County has continued to grow in size to over 78,000 acres.

Forest Service officials said high winds have helped spread the fire, which was caused by lightning strikes on August 17.

More than 360 people are battling the blaze, located about 20 miles southwest of Owyhee.

Roughly 20 percent of the fire has been contained, according to the Forest Service.

Despite the larger size of the blaze, officials still believe the fire will be contained by Aug. 31.
