CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The latest Nevada voter registration figures indicate the state Democratic Party gained more registered voters than the state Republican Party during February.
The Secretary of State's Office reports an increase of just over 5,100 registered voters in February compared with January, putting the state's total electorate at just under 1.6 million.
The office says the Democrat tally increased by just under 1,920 in February, compared with roughly 1,150 additional Republicans. There were slightly over 1,660 additional independents registering in February.
With the February changes, Democrats now represent 38 percent of the electorate, Republicans 33 percent and independents 22 percent.
The Independent American Party has about 4 percent of the electorate and the Libertarian Party 1 percent.
Rounding and "other" minor parties account for the rest.
