Bears Ears National Monument Committee Criticized

A newly created advisory committee for the Bears Ears National Monument has come under fire for its lack of representation among those who were proponents of the monument’s designation in the first place.

The Bureau of Land Management identified the 15-person panel who will help make management decisions for the monument in Southern Utah.

The names include a San Juan County Commissioner and several ranchers – all of whom cheered president Donald Trump’s decision to scale back the monument by about 85 percent.

The members were given one, two and three-year terms to stagger when they will be replaced. The committee is scheduled to meet for the first time this summer.
