The Center for Biological Diversity filed a petition Thursday asking the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to give Endangered Species Act protection to the Las Vegas bearpoppy.
The organization says in a press release that over the past 20 years, the desert flower has disappeared across more than half of its range in Clark County and dramatically decreased across nearly 90 percent of its remaining habitat.
