A south Reno resident has contracted Washoe County’s first case of hantavirus since 2017.
Hantavirus is transmitted by rodents - mostly deer mice in northern Nevada.
The flu-like symptoms typically appear one to eight weeks after exposure and prove fatal in about 38 percent of human cases.
Washoe County health officials urge area residents to take extra precautions in any area that may have mouse droppings or urine.
