Forest Service Appoints New District Boss In Sierra Nevada

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Forest Service district ranger in southwest Colorado who also worked as a natural resource specialist in Utah has been named the new head of the Carson Ranger District covering the eastern Sierra in northern Nevada and California.

Humboldt-Toiyabe Forest Supervisor Bill Dunkelberger praised Matthew Zumstein's diverse experience in announcing his appointment Tuesday to replace retiring district ranger Irene Davidson.

Zumstein began his federal career after serving in the Peace Corps in Dominican Republic helping to promote and develop sustainable agricultural practices.

He worked as an environmental assessment specialist for the Forest Service in Washington, D.C., and was a recreation ranger in northeast Utah before he was named in 2016 as district ranger for Colorado's Grand Mesa-Uncompahgre-Gunnison National Forest Norwood Ranger District.
