Yiyun Li

Police bundle a 28 year old woman into a van as the crowd shouts and jeers. She's a political prisoner, and they're driving her to her execution. So begins Yiyun Li's novel, The Vagrants. The Chinese author left her native Beijing in 1996. She reflects back on a history of revolution and censorship, and what it's like writing as a foreigner in a foreign land.

Yiyun Li will be speaking about "Blurring Borders" with authors Junot Diaz and poet Pablo Medina Tuesday April 6th at UNLV's Student Union Theater. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is being held by the Black Mountain Institute.
