Nevada Psychiatric Hospital Still Behind On Court-Ordered Admissions

Nevada’s only maximum-security psychiatric facility is still struggling to admit court-ordered patients in a timely manner.

Lake’s Crossing in Sparks is supposed to make changes as part of a settlement to a federal lawsuit over admittance.

But, the facility in Northern Nevada struggles with space limitations, transportation and financial issues.

According to a report in the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the hospital was supposed to admit inmates within 21 days of a judge’s order; however, state records show patients were not getting into the hospital within that time frame.

Nevada’s chief medical officer, Dr. Tracey Green, told the Review-Journal that transportation issues and space limitations are adding to the long wait times for admissions.

The long term solution could be a psychiatric hospital for southern Nevada, but lawmakers need to pass more funding for it.
