Billionaires Vie For NV Hearts, Minds and Votes

Brent Holmes

John L. Smith

Billionaires like Tom Steyer, the Koch Brothers and Sheldon Adelson are pouring money into the political landscape of Nevada.

But why are they so interested in the political fate of Nevada, a state with only six electoral votes?

Longtime Nevada columnist John L. Smith told KNPR there’s a lot at play in Nevada, especially in the race for control of the U.S. Senate.

Smith also said the crackdown on illegal fireworks in southern Nevada is a long time coming, as Las Vegas and its metro area is no longer a tiny backwater—it’s a metropolis that’s a virtual tinderbox due to the ongoing drought.

And Smith takes a look behind the wannabe master-planned community, Coyote Springs, after the state engineer denied the plans, saying there wasn’t enough water to support it.
