For Las Vegans who grumble about a lack of public outdoor spaces and cultural venues, the City of Las Vegas has come to the rescue.

On September 4, the City debuted the $190 million Las Vegas Civic Center and Carolyn G. Goodman Plaza. Along with City Hall, it completes a centralized hub for all of the jurisdiction's operations.

The complex includes two buildings comprising some 250-thousand square feet. But its cultural components include an outdoor plaza for events and a 2,400-square-foot contemporary art gallery, along with public art installments and two forthcoming eateries.

While events have already taken place, the grand opening is September 20, highlighted by performances by four music acts with Las Vegas ties.
