Nov 13 Thursday
UNLV Opera Theatre presents a wedding-themed production. On the bill: Le mariage aux lanternes (The Wedding by Lantern-Light), with music by Jacques Offenbach and a libretto by Michel Carre and Leon Battu and Weichet nur, betrubten Schatten (Wedding Cantata) by Johann Sebastian Bach.
The stage name of Spanish guitarist Diego Garcia, Twanguero is most known for his multi-genre approach to guitar. The base of his performance is Spanish classical finger-picking style. But he also throws in dashes of Latin, surf, rockabilly and jazz, thus giving his approach an international sound. His name is related to his aesthetic — he calls it Latin twang.
NPR Music said his music finds “ a spot somewhere between the flamenco music on which he was raised and the low, percussive rumble of '50s-era Duane Eddy.”

The Performing Arts Center closes out its calendar year with another guitar-centric masterclass. Colombia-born Vegas resident Ricardo Cobo is a six-stringer renowned for his spirited and expertly honed fretwork. The former UNLV professor returns to his old stomping ground with the show “Diary of Musical Images” — that’s three nouns that normally don’t go together, but trust the process, folks. If you haven’t experienced Latin American classical guitar by a literal maestro in person, avail yourself of this inexpensive opportunity.
